President and CEO, Luck Stone Corporation
As President and CEO of Luck Stone Corporation, Charles S. Luck IV – known as “Charlie” – focuses on developing the future vision of Luck Stone Corporation. He collaborates with the business units and corporate support areas to build the people, organization, strategy and direction for the company’s future. Luck became president and chief operating officer in 1995 and was named president and CEO in 1999. May 2008 will mark his 25th anniversary with the company. His involvement with stone, however, began around age 10, when he and his father would visit quarries, and he would slide down the rock piles. Over the years, Luck has visited quarries throughout the United States, China and Italy; he has come to appreciate the fascinating history, geology and unique beauty of indigenous stone. Luck is a 1983 graduate of Virginia Military Institute, where he majored in civil engineering.

In 1989, Fernandes began his career at Luck Stone in outside sales, where he was responsible for account development with builders, contractors and the design community. Now, as president of Charles Luck Stone Center, he is charged with ensuring that the mission and vision of the Stone Centers are understood and met – if not exceeded – by fellow associates. A North Carolina State University graduate, Fernandes was vice president of Luck Stone’s Architectural Stone Division (now Charles Luck Stone Center) prior to his current position. His passion for stone was born in a New England backyard, where Fernandes learned from his grandfather, a man he calls a “self-made stone mason.” In addition to an appreciation for stone built on early lessons from his grandfather and then by his experience with Luck Stone, recent trips to Verona, Venice, Tuscany and the Amalfi coast in Italy have shown him how natural stone is romanced and celebrated abroad.

Previously, he was involved in sales and marketing for the Consumer Products Division of Reynolds Metals Company for 20 years.
