Exterior Walls & Fireplaces

Most stone veneers will age beautifully and require little to no maintenance over their lifetime. However, in case you would like to clean these surfaces, we lend advice on how best to care for vertical applications of both natural and manmade stone, including house fronts and walls.

Natural Stone Veneers
Natural stone requires little to no maintenance, as many people enjoy the aged and natural look that moss and lichens bring to stone. However, if this look is not desired, natural stone can be power-washed using a few important guidelines. When power-washing, use light pressure and a wide tip to avoid cutting the stone. When a high-pressure washer is used, especially if the tip gets too close to the material, it can actually remove particles of stone, thus exposing a new layer of material. Sometimes the layer below has different shading or color than the top layer, creating what may look like light or dark streaks on the surface. High-pressure washing can also create a polishing effect, changing the color of some or all of the stone. Consulting with a professional power-wash technician is recommended.

Cultured Stone® Veneers
Dirt and dust may need to be removed periodically from Cultured Stone surfaces. To do this, use a strong solution of granulated soap or detergent and water with a bristle brush. Do not use a wire brush, as this will damage the surface. Rinse the area immediately with fresh water. Do not use acid or acid-containing products. Acidic products as well as de-icing chemicals should not be used on or around Cultured Stone surfaces as they will cause damage to the stone. Cultured Stone products cannot be power-washed--doing so can cause chipping, discoloration, or surface deterioration.
